Graduate Assistantships are available in Dr. Cheryl Schultz’s Conservation Biology Research Group to join us in Fall 2022. We use a population ecology lens to address the ecology of at-risk species and develop conservation and restoration responses to global change. We expect to recruit 1-2 new graduate students for the Conservation Biology Research Group for Fall 2022 as part of newly funded research on Oregon silverspot butterfly. The research is part of a collaborative project with USFWS, US Forest Service, Oregon Zoo, Woodland Park Zoo and several other partners. Graduate students will lead projects in 1) experimental ecology and adaptive management to understand ecological response of Oregon silverspot to potential restoration tools and/or 2) lead large mark-recapture studies to gain understanding of the metapopulation structure across the meadow systems and assess population status of Oregon silverspot.

We expect independence and maturity from graduate students along with an enthusiasm for research. Successful students have strong quantitative skills and excellent writing skills. Competitive applicants have a high GPAs, strong letters of recommendation, and a record of experience in conducting ecological field research.

New student(s) will conduct initial experiments in Summer 2022 as a research assistant in the Conservation Biology lab, then formally matriculate as a graduate student for the Fall 2022 semester. We encourage well-qualified potential MS or PhD students get in touch to learn more and to apply. More information on the lab can be found here https://labs.wsu.edu/conservation-biology/
