The Security and Optimization for Networked Globe Laboratory (SONG Lab,
http://www.songlab.us/) at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites applications for multiple doctoral openings in the Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EE&CS) (https://daytonabeach.erau.edu/admissions/doctoral) beginning Spring 2022 or Fall

Areas of interest include

• AI/machine learning/data science,
• Cybersecurity and privacy,
• cyber-physical systems/internet of things,
• unmanned aircraft systems, and
• communications and networking.


Ph.D. students are fully supported through full tuition, as well as an annual stipend ($20-25 K). The SONG Lab’s research has been supported by federal agencies and industry, and featured by popular news media outlets, including IEEE GlobalSpec’s Engineering360, Security Magazine, Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), Fox News, U.S. News & World Report, The Washington Times, Battle Space and Defense Daily. The SONG Lab has received 5 Best Paper Awards (IEEE CPSCom-2019, IEEE ICII 2019, IEEE/AIAA ICNS 2019, IEEE CBDCom 2020,
and WASA 2020). SONG Lab graduates work in a variety of companies and universities. Those seeking academic positions have been hired at universities like Auburn University, Bowling Green State University,
and University of Tennessee. Those seeking positions in industry have gone on to corporations like Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, and ServiceNow.
The lab director, Dr. Houbing Song, has served as an Associate Technical Editor for IEEE Communications Magazine (2017-present), an Associate Editor for IEEE Internet of Things Journal (2020-present) and IEEE Journal on Miniaturization for Air and Space Systems (J-MASS) (2020-present).

Dr. Song is a senior member of both IEEE and ACM, and an ACM Distinguished Speaker. He is the editor of 8 books, including Cyber-Physical Systems, Academic Press, 2016; Big Data Analytics for Cyber-Physical Systems: Machine Learning for the Internet of Things, Elsevier, 2019; Smart Cities, Wiley, 2017; Smart Transportation: AI Enabled Mobility and Autonomous Driving,CRC Press, 2021; Industrial Internet of Things, Springer, 2016, and Security and Privacy in Cyber-
Physical Systems, Wiley-IEEE Press, 2017. He is the author of more than 200 articles (Number of Google Citations: 15,000+; Google h-index: 63) and the inventor of 2 patents. Dr. Song has been on the Top Scientists Ranking for Computer Science & Electronics prepared by Guide2Research

Requirements:
• Applicants must have received a Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
by the start date of the position;

• GRE score;
• international students who will not be graduating from an English educational system
within the last two years, or for whom English is not the primary language, must submit official TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo or Cambridge scores.


Preferred Qualifications:
• Applicants with research experience in relevant areas (AI/machine learning/data science, cybersecurity, cyber-physical systems/internet of things, unmanned aircraft systems, and communications and networking) and strong publication record in IEEE/ACM venues will be given priority.
